Los Angeles Angels edge past Detroit Tigers 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels edged past the Detroit Tigers 2-1 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, August 24 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
"That's the kind of game we need him to give us when he gets the ball," Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said on his team’s tremendous effort.
Zack Greinke and Howie Kendrick played well for the Angels and proved their valour.
"If we were playing in a smaller ballpark, it would have been a six, seven run game," Greinke said on his performance which proved one of the winning factors for the Angels.
Zack Greinke with the ball and Howard Kendrick with the bat showed enormous energy which provided the Angels a great victory.
"Just hustled down there tried to break up the double play and that's what I did, I was a told by a pretty good player when I was young -- Kirby Puckett -- to always do something that helps the team win," Hunter said and explained about his team’s overall batting offence.
Greinke pitched 7.2 innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck-out five while his ERA remained consistent at 5.22.
While second baseman Howard Kendrick placed the Angels into a winning position with his two important RBIs on his four at-bats.
Though the Tigers' batting and pitching also played well but overall they could not match the Angels’ brilliance.
"I'm concerned about it after watching tonight, He looked good at the plate, but moving around, certainly you would have to say there's some questions," Detroit manager Jim Leyland.
Tigers’ starter Rick Porcello pitched six innings and allowed seven hits and two runs. He struck-out six while his ERA remained consistent at 4.60. He did well on the mound but overall the Tigers' batters could not play aggressive and lost in the end.
His team-mate and closing pitcher Brayan Villarreal also showed some resistance with his attacking pitching but he could not handle the Angels’ consistent pressure and lost the game for his team.
Villarreal pitched two innings and received only two hits. He struck-out four and his ERA remained consistent at 2.16.
