Los Angeles Angels empowered with the inclusion of Albert Pujols – MLB News
The euphoria and astonishment saw new heights on Friday, December 9, when the former St. Louis Cardinals’ slugger Albert Pujols signed a 10-year deal worth close to $260 million with the Los Angeles Angels.
With bated breath, the fans in the ever expanding circles of baseball awaited the move that the former-Cardinals star had to make. Speculations rife, uncertainty prevailed as to which team would eventually get their hands on him as  the Angels finally managed
to.
While fans and team-mates in the Los Angeles Angels received the news with utter surprise and excitement, even the owner of the club seemed buoyed after the deal was reached.
For Arte Moreno, the Angels’ owner, the day was monumental and the excitement was huge.
"This is a monumental day for Angel fans, and I could not be more excited," Moreno said in a press release. "Albert's career performance clearly speaks for itself. He has proven to be the best player of his generation."
While the 2011 World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals might not have anticipated such a move, given their recent flurry of attempts to woo Albert Pujols back in the club, the Angels feel empowered now.
With the inclusion of the player of this calibre, one whose superiority in the offence remains self-evident and beyond any shred of doubt, the Angels have now comfortably put themselves in a position where balance unquestionably favours them.
This was something that the newly inducted right-hand pitcher C. J. Wilson referred to when asked to express his view on one of the biggest developments in the Angels’ history that signifies a historic change in the outlook of the team.
"It's a big swing in the balance of power in the [American League] West," Wilson said. "I thought I was going to make a little bit of a difference, but [Pujols is] obviously going to make a huge one. Nobody saw that coming."
What needs to be seen now is the ability of the Angels to capitalise on the strong induction in the club, enabling themselves to get on any team with much more confidence and strength than ever before.
