Los Angeles Angels eye signing free-agent pitcher C.J. Wilson – MLB Update
Despite the number of offers made to free-agent pitcher, C.J Wilson, by other teams that are reported to be around the six-year term, Los Angeles Angels are confident that they will be able to acquire the player along with the top prospect at the moment,
Albert Pujols, in the upcoming days.
For Angels’ general manager, Jerry Dipoto, believing on rumours about deals for other teams in something he is not willing to take out time to think about for since they will sit down with the players and work out deals on their own terms instead of believing
in heresy.
"Speculation is speculation -- I don't believe everything I hear," Dipoto said. "I will continue to sit down with players, and we'll find the right fit for us."
C.J. Wilson is learned to be demanding a long term deal worth $100 million, which could be something that the Angels could be a little hesitant about fulfilling, making the scene interesting in the upcoming days.
"We've explored lot of different options, but we have not made an offer to any ninth-inning guy," Dipoto said. "I just don't think it's a primary need."
By having their eyes on Wilson ever since the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season came to an end, it is expected that talks have reached the stage at which both are just a signature away from making it official to the world that they will be
playing together next year.
"You don't quite know where it's going to go -- all you can do is identify players that may fit well and remain patient through the process," Dipoto said. "We're searching more for an experienced setup guy."
As much as Los Angeles Angels would like to sign on the player, it will also depend on what Wilson is willing to go for and if he would be willing to compromise on some money for the team.
It will be interesting to see what the upcoming days bring about for the Los Angeles Angels and C.J Wilson, which are two parts of what could potentially be one of the biggest deals of the offseason.
