Los Angeles Angels fill out starting rotation – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels have added some of the very talented pitchers in the roster. This offseason has certainly been proved very fortunate for the Angels starting rotation.
Now they have completed all possible new signings and trades before the start of 2013 Major League Baseball season. In the last MLB season, the Angels focus was to include hitters in the batting line-up while this year, they turned their attention to add some offensive pitchers.
Recently, the Angels have completed Jason Vargas acquisition from the Seattle Mariners which made their starting rotation more powerful. After Vargas’ arrival in the Angels’ franchise, the Angels are feeling quite confident to play in the 2013 Major League Baseball season.
“This really fits a need for us, We were looking for a steady, reliable left-hander who has a history of pitching a lot of innings,” GM Jerry Dipoto said and explained about the recent developments which Angels made in order to bring consistent results.
Dipoto added, “We are not strangled by an overwhelming number of players who are limited in what they can do defensively, This puts us in a better position. It just gives us a roster that works.”
Dipoto further added, “It was very much a part of the plan, dating back to the start of this offseason and even as we were trailing toward the end of 2012, to keep as much of our young nucleus in place as possible.”
Jason Vargas last played for the Seattle Mariners and went with good numbers. He achieved 3.85 ERA along with 14-11 win-loss, 141 strikeouts, 1.18 WHIP.
On the other hand, his career stats are also consistent at 4.35 ERA along with 42-50 win-loss, 530 strikeouts, 1.31 WHIP.
Some say along with Jason Vargas, Joe Blanton and Garrrett Richards, the Los Angeles Angels will be stronger in the next season. Richards also possesses good numbers and considered one of the top offensive pitchers in the league.
Though he is not much experienced, but he still plays an aggressive game. He currently stands consistent at his career 4.69 ERA along with one save, 47 strikeouts and 1.58 WHIP.
