Los Angeles Angels’ first-baseman Kendrys Morales undergoes series of tests – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels’ first-baseman slugger and switch hitter Kendrys Morales is currently injured due to his broken left ankle that has also sidelined him from baseball for the past year and a half.
Though, he has been receiving constant treatment from some of the best doctors in his home state of Colorado. However, many complications are coming and no doctor has yet confirmed on his possible comeback in the next Major League Baseball season.
Recently, reports have confirmed that Morales is undergoing a series of medical tests to determine the level of intensity of his ankle injury.
Earlier, the Angels’ general manager Jerry Dipoto commented about Morales and hoped for a better future and his timely recovery.
Dipoto said, “We’ll find out if he can step up to the next level and start more rigorous baseball activities. I wouldn’t say Kendrys’ 2012 season hinges on the answers we get this week, but the optimism we already feel could be enhanced. The news has
been consistently positive, and we’re hopeful of a healthy return. With the depth we have at the corners, we’re not contingent on his return by opening day, but we’re optimistic that could happen.”
Jerry's comments show he has full confidence in Morales and soon his ace player will be playing with full energy. The team is constantly monitoring his progress as they anticipate his early return to action. Morales got injured late in the 2010 season
as he was able to play only 51 games.
Despite his injury, Morales still achieved a hitting average of .290 along with .346 OBP, .487 SLG and .833 OPS as he received appreciation from many baseball experts. During his five year career, he has a hitting average of .284 with 57 home-runs,
192 RBI’s and an extraordinary .336 OBP, making him a great player at first-base.
The next MLB season is very important for Morales to make a potential comeback for two different reasons. First he will be looking to come for his own game and secondly the Angels are eager for his early return to improve their chances next year.
