Los Angeles Angels floor Detroit Tigers 1-3 – MLB news
Detroit Tigers suffered an embarrassing series loss against the Los Angeles Angels as they lost 1-3 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, June 27 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Angels, who secured comfortable win in first two games of the series, continued their excellent form in the finale to earn a rare series sweep at Comerica Park. A lot of credit should be given to the pitching rotation for living up to the expectations in
all three games of the series.
Tigers, on the other hand, will be disgusted with their effort. Despite having the home conditions working in their favour, they were unable to find winning ways. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can regroup and fight from a humiliating defeat
to keep their first place on the American League East Division standings table.
Starting pitcher Doug Fister had a great time on the mound as he allowed just seven hits and one run in seven effective innings to help his side stay in the contest.
However, Fister was extremely unfortunate to end on the losing side. Relief pitcher Phil Coke paid the ultimate price for his errors as he conceded three hits and two runs in just 0.1 innings of relief to take his fifth consecutive loss this year.
“The Pujols pitch wasn't a bad pitch. I think that maybe it wasn't the right pitch in that particular moment,” Coke said. “I didn't feel like I made the perfect pitch to him by any means, but the last thing I thought he was going to do is hit it as far as
he did. It was away from him. I looked at where (catcher Brayan) Pena was set up and he was going away from Pujols with his glove, going away to receive the ball. He found it with his barrel.”
Brayan Pena singled to right in the second inning to put Tigers on the board but the Angels fought back superbly to claim a thrilling victory. For the Angels, Kevin Jepsen held his nerves under immense pressure to grab his first win of the year.
