Los Angeles Angels hammer Seattle Mariners 8-4 – MLB Recap
Los Angeles Angels hammered the Seattle Mariners 8-4 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, October 1 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
"Our expectations are higher than even the fans', media, anyone, We're disappointed. We set ourselves back early in the year and never quite got back to the position we wanted to be. We paid a price for it, You can't cut out parts of the season and say we did this or we did that. The test of the season is 162 games. For 120 games-plus, we played great baseball," said Angels' manager Mike Scioscia.
Angels’ upfront batting line-up played beautifully and won in the end. It was a well fought victory for Angels’ as they outclassed the Mariners’ with great force.
Centre fielder Mike Trout scored two runs and smashed four hits along with three RBIs on his two at-bats. He played aggressively and maintained his slugging percentage at .564.
First baseman Albert Pujols scored one run and smashed two hits on his five at-bats. He ran for an RBI and remained persistent on his .523 slugging percentage.
"That's why you play 162 games, We played pretty well in the second half. Other teams played a little better than us. They deserve to make it, too," Pujols said.
Second baseman Howard Kendrick played four times and scored one run and smashed four hits along with two RBIs on his .400 slugging percentage.
Shortstop Maicer Izturis batted five times on the plate and scored two runs and hammered two hits on his persistent .314 slugging percentage.
Along with batters, the Angels' pitchers also played well as they remained calm on the mound.
C.J. Wilson pitched 6.1 innings and received three runs and six hits along with a homer on his consistent 3.83 ERA. He struck-out seven and showed his true class.
On the other hand, the Mariners’ pitchers played poorly and received big hits from the talented Angels' batters.
Felix Hernandez literally lost the game for the Mariners. He pitched 5.1 innings and received seven runs and 12 hits which eventually proved disastrous for the Mariners.
