Despite winning the first game of the series 6-1, the Angels could not hold on to their natural aggressive play in that particular game and lost in the end.
The real damage came from the Angels’ pitchers. They combined played poorly and were hammered with enormous power by the Rangers’ hitters.
From their starters to closers, they just could not handle the Rangers aggressive hitters who played more consistent throughout the game and earned a great victory in the end.
Starter Ervin Santana pitched 1.2 innings and was smashed with six crucial runs on eight hits. He also received six earned runs and three homers as his ERA rose to 6.00.
“They jumped on every pitch that I threw early, but it happens," Santana said. "I just have to keep positive and keep pitching. If I knew what was wrong, I'd make an adjustment. I'm just doing the best I can right now. Every bullpen I throw, I'm getting better and better, but I'm not getting good results yet."
Relief pitcher David Carpenter pitched 4.0 innings and received one run on three hits along with a homer. He played comparatively better than his team-mate starter Santana but still his performance could not save the game for his team.
Angels’ closer Hisanori Takahashi could have played better as he too did not show his natural game and was hammered with two runs on two hits. He also gave two earned runs along with a homer as his ERA also rose to 4.37.
On the other hand, the entire Rangers' roster played well and kept the Angels’ under pressure throughout the game.
Rangers’ never gave any chance to the Angels’ to take control of the game instead they pushed them hard towards more humiliation and won in the end.
