Los Angeles Angels infielder Mark Trumbo to reduce playing time – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels infielder Mark Trumbo is facing a new strategy for his game by the management.
The Angels top management wants something different for Trumbo, who came into this season with full thrust, but sitting in two consecutive games, he has recognise the fact that the team management reducing his playing time in order to give him little rest before the season gets more competitive.
Though he sat on the bench on Tuesday’s game due to slight illness, but before that game against Oakland Athletics on Monday; the management purposely did not include him in the starter roster.
“I understood I wouldn't be playing every day, and that's what's playing out," Trumbo said.
Trumbo added, “As quick as I can progress at third, [it] will equal more playing time. It's all on me. That's the way I take it. That's why I'm putting so much work in."
Angels, who are saving some of his playing time, also have not decided his permanent position yet. His switching position of first base to third base is still not confirmed and if his current form discontinued in the later stages of the game, the team management will further decide regarding his new position next season.
Angels' manager Mike Scioscia said for Trumbo explaining, "He'll get in [the lineup]…We want to get him in there as much as possible, It's tough to say what his [at-bat] numbers will be; guys will get a chance to contribute Griffin declined to estimate how long it might take for Trumbo to become truly comfortable at third.”
Having two years of experience, Trumbo is currently playing relatively fine baseball and giving his team slight self-assurance as he will play a key role in the coming days as well.
His career hitting average of .255 is well adjusted with his current .333 hitting percentage and the level of improvement in his OBP is also showing his commitment with team he has joined just two years ago.
Experts believe that Trumbo is a good player and as this is only his second full season with the Angels which is the main reason the top management taking some time on his fate regarding a permanent playing position.
