Los Angeles Angels lose to Chicago White Sox 6-8 in series opener – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels lost to the Chicago White Sox 6-8 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Friday, August 3 in Game 1 of their three match series.
Angels’ starting pitcher Zack Greinke allowed ten hits and six runs in seven wavered innings but it was reliever Hisanori Takahashi who took the loss after the giving up the go ahead home-run in the tenth inning. Chicago’s relief pitcher Matt Thornton, on
the other hand, held off the Angels for his fourth win.
"I guess I just got too fastball happy and I got myself in trouble with Pierzynski," Greinke said. "I didn't think he would be able to do that with that pitch. It was kind of where I wanted, maybe not perfect, but I was really surprised he was able to hit
it as far as he did."
Chicago showed great courage and determination o get the better of the inform Angels in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. Half way through the contest, Los Angeles had a decent lead but the White Sox fought back superbly to register
an emphatic win.
Mark Trumbo had an RBI single to right in the first inning to put the Angels on the board. Alex Rios singled to left and catcher A.J. Pierzynski homered to right centre to extend Chicago’s lead to 4-1.
"After last year, what he went through, him and (Dunn), you never want to see anybody struggle like that," said A.J. Pierzynski, who also homered for the White Sox. "For him to bounce back, I couldn't be happier for a guy."
Youngster Mike Trout connected for a two run home-run to left in the second and Albert Pujols homered to left centre to give the Angels a crucial 6-4 lead.
Rios brought the White Sox back into the contest with a home-run to left centre. Centre fielder Alejandro De Aza hit a ground rule double to deep left in the seventh to level the score 6-6.
Playing a key in deciding the outcome of the clash, Rios continued to show his brilliance, belting another two run home-run to left centre in the extra inning to help his side secure a memorable win.
