Los Angeles Angels lose to Kansas City Royals 1-4 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels lost to Kansas City Royals 1-4 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 24 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
Angels played poorly and could not save the game from the Royals' top offence. Angels’ upfront batting line-up miserably failed and never showed any fighting spirit during the entire game which proved disastrous in the end as the Los Angeles side was defeated with a three-run deficit.
On the other hand, the Royals played well and earned a decent victory in the end. Not only their batters but their pitchers also performed with big energy and kept the Angels under pressure as they never gave them any chance to take control of the game at any point of play.
Especially Royals’ rookie left hander starting pitcher Will Smith tossed seven solid innings and proved one of the winning factors for his team.
He allowed only one run and one earned run while he struck-out four Angels' batters.
He also received two hits but overall his performance was quite consistent as he remained calm on the mound with 6.26 ERA.
Smith said, "At first, I didn't know how to take it because I was so young, But people kept telling me it was a good thing for me. We've got a great young core here, I'm excited. It always feels good to win, going against a buddy of yours like Garrett."
Later Royals’ manager Ned Yost said of his starter and of his team’s tremendous effort, "This is a tough lineup to navigate through, he really got locked in during the fourth inning, He had thrown more balls than strikes to that point his command was off a little bit, but he was wild enough that he was tough to hit.”
On the other hand, the Angels’ starter Garrett Richards did not play well and was hammered with big hits in his five innings spell. He allowed four runs and received five hits but was able to strike-out two Royals’ batters which were not enough to seal a win.
The Angels will be disappointed with their performance as they were unable to get their offence going. The Royals will be looking to carry their winning momentum forward to build up some confidence in their line-up.
