Los Angeles Angels lure Scott Servais to the Angel Stadium of Anaheim
The Los Angeles Angels have struck their first blow against the Texas Rangers in this year’s offseason as they bring in Scott Servais as their new assistant general manager. The news was confirmed on Friday, November 4, when Halos General Manager (GM), Jerry
Dipoto addressed the press on the surprisingly development.
Servais was the Rangers’ Senior Director of Player Development and was also one of the first men brought to the Texans in 2005 after Jon Daniels was made the club’s General Manager. The 44-year-old is a former MLB catcher and now he will be assisting Dipoto
in carrying out various managerial duties at the club. The former Rangers’ man served as the club’s Farm Director for six seasons. He will definitely add a new dimension to the Angels.
Dipoto announced Servais’ appointment with great pleasure. There will be problems at the Rangers headquarters after this event and it sends a good signal to the American League West Champions.
"We are pleased to announce the addition of Scott as our assistant general manager [in charge of] scouting and player development," Dipoto said in a club release. "Scott has a great presence and his impact will be felt immediately. He will create a positive,
productive and successful environment within our player development program.
"One simply needs to look at what Texas has accomplished during the last six years to understand the value Scott now brings to the Angels."
The recently appointed GM told the press that he thought of Servais as the top fringe man to evaluate players. He expressed his hopes in seeing the former Rangers’ man provide a new dimension to the Halos in the coming days.
Servais is known to help players like Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba at the Rangers clubhouse. The two catchers have benefitted a lot from the top manager’s insight. Nelson Cruz, who hit six homers in the American League Championship Series, credits most
of his development to Servais. With a rising crop of stars at the Angels’ clubhouse, the new assistant GM would provide a distinct take on how to hit the ball.
Upcoming players like Mark Trumbo could truly learn a lot from him.
