Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia talks about Brandon Wood
There was good news and there was bad news in Arlington on April 19, 2011, for the Los Angeles Angels. The team recently won a game against the Texas Rangers and balanced their wins to become co-leaders in the American League West division.
However, they made a roster change in light of the uplifting performance away from home. They shifted Brandon Wood to the minor league. Manager Mike Scioscia had a few words to share on the issue.
The halos have been trying to correct their wrong from last year and they are looking at winning the division. They are trying to limit their weak links from the squad and they did so when they put Wood on assignment. The shortstop, who moved to the Major
League format with big expectations, did not deliver well as he stuttered in his bid to impress the supporters and the manager.
Outfielder, Reggie Willits, knows the player well since they were prospects in the farm system and he expressed his disappointment at the news. For Scioscia, however, it mostly was all about pressure. He believes the player succumbed to his own pressure
when he was given the task to marshal the third base that had previously been under Chone Figgins’ brace.
"I think his expectations were off the charts in terms of what he could do", Scioscia said. "That's not bad. Our expectations were high. Brandon's were higher for himself. I'm not sure if that created pressure in his situation.
There's only so much of a window a player gets with one club. Sometimes that window closes. Some things were not in his control. [Alberto] Callaspo and [Maicer] Izturis are really playing well. His journey's not over".
The player has appeared in six features, so far, and has been unsuccessful in putting up good numbers on the board. He has scored just one run and his 14 At-Bats have yielded only two hits. His batting average is .143 but the manager believes that the record
will be cleared once the 26-year-old gets back to form.
