Los Angeles Angels outscored by Oakland Athletics 1-4 as Ervin Santana costs two runs - MLB Update

Starter Ervin Santana gives up two runs and suffers the loss as the Los Angeles Angels are outclassed by the Oakland Athletics 1-4 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California on September 12, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
Angels’ offence remained quiet throughout the match except for the ninth inning. However, such a delayed response proved too little too late.
They missed an ideal opportunity to win the game which was provided by the feeble lead that the opposition maintained for greater part of the match.
The fact after the first inning Athletics did not add any run through the end of the fifth explains that Angels did not need a series of home-runs to record the victory. Instead the conventional run scoring techniques were to be sufficient in order to register
the triumph.
However, the hopelessly poor show by their offence did not put any hurdle in the path of the victory of the Athletics.
The spell of six innings that Angels’ starter Santana completed was not entirely bad. He struck-out six and yielded just four hits in the match. Yet he was unable to eschew the loss.
The sole run that came off from the Angels was through the home-run hammered by their designated hitter Albert Pujols. He connected two hits in four at-bats on Wednesday. His effort however did not prove substantive as in order to avoid the defeat a greater
number of runs was required by the Angels.
Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia calls into question the inability of his batters to find hits in the beginning of the innings. He is optimistic about the matches ahead as he believes it is just a matter of few good innings before they return to winning ways
again.
''Those guys have been pitching great all year, and this series they matched up well against us and are doing a good job,'' Mike Scioscia said. ''A week ago we were playing great baseball, and right now we've hit a little bump in the road. It takes one good
game to get you on track, and one good inning.”
Angels will be trying to put sufficient number of runs on the scoreboard next time. Let’s see as to how they achieve this objective.
