Los Angeles Angels outshine Kansas City Royals 6-3 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels outshined the Kansas City Royals 6-3 in the first game of their three-match regular season encounter on Monday, July 23 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
Pinch hitter Kendrys Morales played well and provided a single on which Alberto Callaspo, Maicer Izturis and Peter Bourjos scored in the bottom eighth as the Angels oust the Royals with a three run advantage.
“I'm usually ready to go in by the seventh inning, The pitch was up, and I took advantage of it," Morales said with confidence.
Later Angels' manager Mike Scioscia said of his team’s great effort, "Kansas City has some power arms out of the `pen, and we were fortunate to get some things going -- especially with two outs, I think there's still some upside to Kendrys. I think he's getting comfortable. He's been through a stretch this month where he's just lost his comfort zone in the box and was chasing a lot of pitches. Hopefully this can start to get him back to where he is. We need him swinging the bat."
Along with Morales, the Angels other batters also did well and earned a great victory for their team.
Centre fielder Mike Trout scored a run on his two hits while his slugging percentage remained consistent at .600 on five at-bats.
Right fielder Torii Hunter added a run on his five at-bats while second baseman Howard Kendrick also played well and score a RBI on his three at-bats.
Overall the game was played at a high pace but as the game approached the sixth inning both teams started some heavy hitting.
However, the Angels proved more determined in the end and won with style.
Angels’ starter C.J. Wilson certainly contributed with his fast sliders and received only three runs on nine hits. He also struck-out six as his ERA remained consistent at 2.89 and proved one of the winning factors for the Angels.
Team-mate closer Kevin Jepsen also proved wonderful for the Angels and pitched his 1.1 innings spell with accuracy in which he never allowed any run and maintained his 4.80 ERA.
