Los Angeles Angels’ payroll impressive for 2011 – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels’ total payroll has increased from 2010 and is ranked quite high in Major League Baseball. Only teams like the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies have a payroll higher than the Angels.
This fact is quite impressive, as the teams ahead in payroll to the Angels are of the highest calibre with a long history of winning ballgames.
It is estimated that the Angels’ total payroll is around $140 million, which a higher than the $124 million that it was back in 2010. It seems that the Angels are doing the right thing when it comes to managing their finances. The team’s management has found
the perfect balance of getting decent quality players for acceptable amounts of money. This balance has created a nice winning culture within the team.
Although like other Major League teams the Angels are always on the lookout for new talented players that can add something to their performance during the early spring workout sessions. Spring Training will give the Angels the opportunity to try out some
new players and get some much needed game time under their belts.
There is no doubt that the Angels are far behind in payroll to the likes of the New York Yankees. However, it is the performance of the team and not the amount paid to the players that really matters. The number of wins and making it to the post-season are
of the prime importance to the Angels for the upcoming 2011 MLB regular season.
Angels’ owner Arte Moreno fully understands of the importance of having some financial prudence in the team. The concept of having the money and spending it in the right areas is the most crucial aspect for most Major League teams.
"This year it stretches, especially because of the two left-handers [Hisanori Takahashi and Scott Downs] we picked up," Moreno said. "We have plenty of flexibility next year."
As Spring Training begins, the Angels will be looking closely at the performance of their players and work on finalising their rotation and line-ups. The Angels’ strategy of managing their payroll to respectable levels will be truly tested as the regular
season begins.
Regardless of the spring workout session, it will be interesting to see if the Angels have made the right decisions on player acquisitions and salaries for the next regular season. Right now the focus for the team is to win games and build some confidence.
The Angels will be looking to put in a good performance in during Spring Training and carry this winning momentum into the regular season which is right around the corner.
