Los Angeles Angels’ pitcher Dan Haren ruins the Cleveland Indians’ winning-streak – MLB Update
The American League’s Los Angeles Angels’ starter, Dan Haren, pitched a remarkable nine innings to achieve a remarkable win for the club over the Cleveland Indians by 2-0 in the second contest of the three-game series on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium in
Anaheim, California.
Coming off a humiliating 0-4 defeat on Monday, the Angels landed at the park with a positive attitude and shattered the Indians eight-game winning streak. It was evident from the body language of the fielders and pitchers that they have come to take their
revenge.
Haren had a brilliantly start of the first innings, as he got two early strike-outs and put pressure on the opposition. The three-time All-star pitcher, making his third start of the Major League Baseball season, then ended his spell achieving his first
one-hitter of his career. He only allowed a single hit that came off the bat of Shin-Soo Choo in the fourth inning.
"I was going at them pretty much the whole night," Haren said. "I was pitching with a controlled aggressiveness. It was such a close game, I didn't want to leave anything out over the plate -- but I didn't want to get burned with walks, either."
Haren made eight strike-outs and walked two batters in his third shutout and twelfth complete start of his career.
The right-hand pitcher, who was pushed back from the start on Monday, improved his record to 3-0 with a 0.73 earned run average. This outing also documented him as the third ball thrower in the Major League Baseball season to pitch more than seven innings
in his first two starts. Felix Hernandez and Tim Lincecum are the other two who achieved this mark.
The Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia seemed content with Haren whole-heartedly as he mentioned it in an interview with reporters after the game.
"What was special about tonight was that he pitched with his back against the wall the whole night," Scioscia said. "There wasn't any margin for error. They have some guys on that team who can really drive the ball, but Dan made some terrific pitches to
keep those guys down all night."
Haren received complements not only from team-mates, but also from the opponents as Cleveland’s manager Manny Acta considers him as the best pitcher of the game. Acta, whose pitchers also contributed impressively, further added about Haren that he was in
perfect form and the Angels are fortunate to have him in the line-up.
The defeated Indians’ starter Francisco Carmona retaliated hard in his seven shutout innings but went for two runs, both on homers. The right-hand pitcher received one homer each from Peter Bourjos and Mark Trumbo, but managed to get six strike-outs in the
game.
