Los Angeles Angels’ pursuit for free agent C.J. Wilson – MLB Special
The Major League Baseball offseason is in progress and all the teams are making efforts to make their roster stronger for the next season. These teams are taking steps forward in order to bring more quality players in and send some players to other teams
involving trades to release the extra financial burden.
Recently, when the Texas Rangers did not exercise team options on their starting pitcher C.J. Wilson, he instantly grabbed the opportunity and declared himself as a free agent and eventually began receiving offers from many good MLB sides. Since he has become
a free agent, his worth in the biggest baseball league in the world is clearly astonishing with some very good franchises including the New York Yankees, Florida Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland
Indians, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Atlanta Braves are pursuing him to play for them.
The latest team that has shown great interest signing him is the Los Angeles Angels. The teams’ pursuit for Wilson is an overwhelming effort for many other teams as earlier their management did not show any interest at the annual general manager’s meeting
in Milwaukee last week.
The latest move to sign Wilson is very impressive but no official statement has come out in the media from both sides as what the clear picture of these new developments actually is.
However, some recent reports are coming in the media that the Angels’ team manager Mike Scioscia and General Manager Jerry Dipoto have met with C.J. Wilson and talked in detail with him on Monday. However, this meeting is still not officially announced.
On the other hand, the Texas Rangers and their management is pretty clear on a single factor that if Wilson decides to have one more go with them it will be highly regarded but at the same time this is Wilson’s decision as where he wants to go in future.
The Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels has also said in the past that the club still wants to talk to Wilson’s agent and the doors are still open for him in the Rangers franchise.
He said, “We're also realistic on what happens when the top free agents get to this point. The market is what it is.”
Daniels added with detail “The way we’re looking at our rotation right now, in no particular order, you’ve got Colby Lewis, Derek Holland, Matt Harrison, Alexi Ogando, plus Scott Feldman, plus a number of other guys at the upper level that are knocking on
the door, So, on one hand we’re in good shape if we were going to start spring training tomorrow.”
Whatever the Rangers management and their top executives say about the new potential talks with Wilson and his agent, but the fact will remain that the pitcher is now a free agent and will do what he thinks best for his future.
Meanwhile, the Angels’ desire to sign Wilson and make their roster stronger with an addition of potential starter who went 2.94 ERA, along with 16-7 (win loss) record, 206 strike-outs and 1.19 WHIP is somehow realistic as they already offering him a multi-year
contract with good money.
