Los Angeles Angels rebound with five homers to beat Texas Rangers 8-4 – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Angels put in a tremendous effort with their batting to defeat the Texas Rangers 8-4 in the second diversion at Ranger Ballpark in Arlington on Saturday, August 27 to tie three game series at 1-all.
Vernon Wells, Henley Kendrick, Mike Trout, Bobby Wilson and Peter Bourjos each launched a homer to help the Angels come closer to league rivals, the Rangers. Angels’ 72 wins are just three short than the Rangers. Both are running hard to enter their name
in the post-season.
Wells led the game off with his stunning hit to centre-field in the second inning. Hunter scored an RBI single in the third while Trout and Wilson each hammered dazzling home-runs in the fourth to cement the Angels dominating position. Peter Bourjos blistered
in the fifth while Henley Kendrick stroked it in the seventh.
"We drove the ball out of the park today against a guy who's really been tough on us," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He usually has the ball down in the zone, but he had the ball up a little bit and we took advantage and swung the bats well."
The Angels were furious after losing 11-7 in the series opener. Their pitchers also joined with the bat and contributed gritty pitches in an important win.
Ervin Santana worked seven innings and allowed only four runs on four hits and gave one homer. The right-hand hurler was solid to get his tenth win of the season.
“There's always a first time for everything. I was prepared and kept focused. It was hot, but I just focused on doing my thing," Santana said. "I was 100 percent positive and trusted my stuff.”
Scott Downs, Jordan Walden and Hisanori Takahashi provided shining back-up, tossing scoreless innings.
Rangers’ Michael Young scored an RBI while Mike Napoli helped him in the fourth to reduce the lead to 4-2. David Murphy, who was the star of the last night with his grand slam, launched a 410-feet long two run homer to keep the hopes alive in the fifth inning.
C.J. Wilson has allowed six run on ten hits and one walk in five innings and the Rangers’ batting then became helpless to produce such a hitting. Koji Uehara also allowed two runs on one homer.
