Los Angeles Angels receive 4-3 pounding from Tampa Bay Rays – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels received a bitter 4-3 pounding from the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, April 26 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida during their three-game regular series encounter of 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Rays management decided to add power hitter Brandon Allen for a more offensive thrust who eventually provided his franchise a big homer to right field in the last innings of the game proving a winning factor in the end.
"Success like this isn't going to come all the time, Baseball is a lot of luck. I was just there hitting and stayed within myself." said Allen with sheer confidence.
Later Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said for Allen’s brilliant play. "To his credit, he has not played in a while," "This guy has not had many swings over the last couple weeks, and that speaks a lot to his makeup that we've heard about."
Allen came to Tampa Bay in 2012 as he was acquired from the Oakland Athletics. He certainly was the show stopper in the third game of Angels’ vs. Rays as he hit a beautiful two run homer to Jordon Walden after his teammate B.J. Upton took a single before getting out at first base.
"He came up with a big swing on a guy throwing 97 (mph), When it rains, it pours, Right now it's pouring down." the Angels' Torii Hunter said for Allen. This particular defeat proved lethal for the Angels’ big hitting roster which has suffered a third consecutive loss from the Rays since April 24.
"Those guys over there are going to make you earn every inch," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of the Rays and their team’s overall tremendous performance.
Tampa Bay Rays took the early lead in the very first innings of the match, but the Angels levelled the score in fifth innings.
Later in the sixth innings, the Angels were the one who lead the Rays with single run, but eventually the Rays led-off the offence and made to consecutive runs in the decisive ninth innings and took the game away 4-3 and the series 3-0.
