Los Angeles Angels receive heavy hammering from Minnesota Twins 2-8 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels defeated by the Minnesota Twins 2-8 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, April 15 at Target Field in Minnesota.
Twins bating lineup literally hammered the Angels entire pitching prowess. Their top hitters performed and won a good win for the team.
Centre fielder Darin Mastroianni showed good commitment on the mound as he scored one run on a single hit. He batted five times and maintained his slugging percentage at .222.
Catcher Joe Mauer was certainly sharp behind the plate. As he came to bat later, he showed once again that why he is considered one of the top catchers in the league who also bats well when his team requires. Mauer scored two runs on four hits. He ran for
three RBIs and remained consistent on his .558 slugging percentage.
“The thing that I was most impressed about was early on he didn't really have his best stuff, and he navigated through that lineup with pitches other than our normal game plan. Then he kind of found it later on, which was great," Mauer said.
Mauer added, “The ball was carrying better today, I've been disappointed in previous seasons, but tonight it was just flying a little bit better."
Later Angels manager Mike Scioscia said for Mauer, “He's not going to wow you with his stuff, but he had a little cutter, changed speeds. Had some movement on his ball, I think he pitched a strong game tonight."
Third baseman Trevor Plouffe also did well on the plate as he one run on two hits. He also ran for one RBI on his consistent .538 slugging percentage.
Along with batters, the Twins pitchers also showed great commitment and kept the Angels top hitters under pressure.
Starter Kevin Correia pitched seven innings and received only two runs and eight hits. He allowed two earned runs and struck out five Angels batters on 2.95 ERA.
On the other hand, the Angels pitchers were hammered with huge hits. Starter Joe Blanton pitched 4.2 innings and received four runs and two homers on his blistering high 8.59 ERA.
