Los Angeles Angels rout Baltimore Orioles 4-0 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 3 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
The Angels started the game on high note as their experienced hitters played intelligently all the Orioles pitchers.
They scored in quick succession and allowed no chance to the Orioles to dominate. Left fielder Mike Trout scored one run on four at bats. He ran for three RBIs on persistent slugging percentage of .492.
Right fielder Mark Trumbo also did well on the plate as he scored one run on one hit. He ran for an RBI and played consistently on his .533 slugging percentage.
Along with good performance by their batting lineup, the Angels pitchers especially Jason Vergas also performed well and allowed no run during the entire game.
He pitched nine solid innings and allowed only three hits. He struck out three while his ERA remained consistent at 3.72.
"I guess I take more satisfaction just in the way we played the game and the way we were able to be so efficient out there without really giving them an opportunity to put together a big inning, The plays that we made out there early and late really just set us up for success," Jason Vargas said after the game about his outing which totally rattled the entire Orioles batting lineup.
“It was one of those games where the balls they hit hard happened to go at people, But if you can control the count and control the hitter, you're going to have the upper hand," said Vargas, who retired his first four batters on fly balls.
On the other hand, the Orioles pitchers did not play well. They were hammered with big hits and lost the game bitterly in the end.
Starter Miguel Gonzalez pitched six innings and allowed three runs and six hits. He allowed three earned runs and hit for two homers on 4.58 ERA. Relief pitcher Troy Patton pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one run and two hits. He also allowed one earned run on 2.92 ERA.
