Los Angeles Angels rout Toronto Blue Jays 9-7 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 9-7 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, June 28 at Rogers Centre in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo hit two homers each as they helped the Angels power past the Blue Jays.
Angels’ closer Ernesto Frieri on the other end held the Blue Jays with his enormous fast balls and never gave any chance which could have given trouble to his team.
"I just pitch, and I know that maybe tomorrow, or maybe the next day, or at some point, I'm going to give up a run." Frieri said,
Later Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said for his closer, "He's come close a couple of times, so I'm sure eventually [he'll give up a run], You just keep making pitches and repeating pitches and you let the chips fall where they will. He's gotten out of some
scrapes, but he's doing well."
Angels’ entire batting line-up also played well and proved their valour. All the senior players also contributed in the Angels latest win.
"Everybody's contributing, I think the beautiful thing is that today Dan struggled a little bit, but it was time for us to pick him up, too,” Pujols said.
Dan Haren pitched six solid innings for the Angels but was hammered for six runs on seven hits. He also received six earned runs along with two homers as he struck-out three and his ERA rose to 4.53.
This was certainly a bad start for the 31-year old but thanks to Angels’ relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Downs and closer Ernesto Frieri who together gave only one run which eventually proved fruitful for them.
Brett Cecil on the other hand, could save the game for the Blue Jays. He did not play well and was hammered for eight runs on ten hits while he pitched only 5.1 innings. He was also smashed for three homers as his ERA rose to 6.06.
Though later the Blue Jays relief pitchers handled the situation with their balanced game, but at that particular time it was too late to bounce back into the same momentum as they eventually lost the game with bitter humiliation.
