Los Angeles Angels show interest in Zack Greinke – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels are showing great interest landing Milwaukee Brewers’ starting pitcher Zack Greinke into the roster.
Trade talks have already begun but the only hurdle or the competition Angels’ are facing at the moment is Texas Rangers’ interest in Greinke.
Angels’ with second position in the American League West Division are currently playing with balanced roster but going into the second half of the season with much optimism to advance as league leaders. They need some more quality pitchers in their roster and that is the main reason here that they want a quality pitcher like Greinke for a potential backup plan as well to excel the current pace of their winning results.
On the other hand, the Rangers are also looking forward to acquire Greinke as they have been quite busy talking to Brewers’ management on a potential trade.
"We'll certainly be exploring any opportunities we have, Do I see us making a trade of the magnitude of the Cliff Lee deal? I'd be rather surprised if we did." Rangers’ president and CEO Nolan Ryan said earlier on landing Brewers’ starter into the roster.
After Prince Fielder, though the Brewers are struggling, but at the same time they are now in good position to talk about any potential player for Greinke.
Though Greinke’s trade is still speculation in the media, but according to Brewers' general manager Doug Melvin, his trade has several aspects to cover regarding the team’s overall consent.
Melvin said, "Last year, I wouldn't have called somebody who was six games out and ask if you'll give up your best player for prospects. There's always speculation on any free agent player. You hear it with other players like (Shane) Victorino and (Cole) Hamels. It's the same with Zack. When players get this close (to free agency), there's not many that will sign at that (talent) level.”
A former Kansas City player, Greinke arrived in the Brewers franchise in 2011 and since then playing quite consistently.
His ERA at the end of first half of the season was remained consistent at 3.32 along with 9-3 win-loss record, 111 strike-outs and 1.23 WHIP.
