Los Angeles Angels show optimism to add relief pitcher Francisco Cordero – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels are currently taking some drastic steps forward for strengthening their current 40-man roster for next potential season.
Recently, they have added a game giant and former St. Louis Cardinals ace Albert Pujols with a whopping $250 million as now they are looking even higher to get a strong relief pitcher for the next seasons.
Reports are circulating in the media that former Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds and current free agent Francisco Cordero is being persuaded by the Angels’ franchise.
Though no official statement has come out in the media regarding Angels’ any offer to Cordero but a renowned journalist Mike DiGiovanna commented on a social media website (Twitter) stating, “#Orioles, #Phillies, #BlueJays and #Angels pursuing RHP Francisco Cordero, who is expected to make a decision by the end of this week.”
Angels' General Manager Jerry Dipoto, who stated earlier for a need of a reliever in the roster as, "who could help get the last nine outs of the game,” is somewhat right as his team does not have any good reliever who can do the job in last three or fourth innings. While this also adds up a very positive point for Cordero’s potential arrival in the Angels' roster.
Cordero's agent, Bean Stringfellow, also agrees on this fact that currently the Angels need a good reliever and if his client does make a potential signing with the Southern Californian team, both ends will be helping mutually.
Stringfellow recently has also stated in the media that the current Angels’ roster does posses veteran right-hander LaTroy Hawkins’ services in their bullpen, but if in next coming days his client also signs with the Angels, the whole benefit will be divided. He added describing the Angels "were one of the first teams to contact me [about Cordero], and we've had regular contact with them throughout the winter -- they've been pretty consistent.”
The Angles are not the only team who is pursuing Stringfellow’s client but the Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays also want Cordero’s services.
