Los Angeles Angels sign Josh Hamilton – MLB Update
After Albert Pujols’ hefty $240 million deal in 2011, the Los Angeles Angels have continued their great run bringing in some of the talented hitters in the Major League Baseball. News is coming that the Angels have signed Josh Hamilton for a five year $125 contract.
Texas Rangers on the other hand, failed to re-sign Hamilton where he was playing since 2008. Earlier news came out in the media that Rangers are interested to re-sign Hamilton but could not agree on certain terms with Hamilton’s agent.
Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels, “I never expected that he was going to tell us to the dollar what they had, and a chance to offer it. Our full expectation, the phone call was going to be before he signed, certainly not after, Everybody’s got to make their own calls.”
Now Hamilton will join his former teammate C.J. Wilson, who was also signed by the Angels last year. “It’s a great day to be an Angel/Angel fan!” Wilson said on his Twitter account.
The Angels’ also said in a statement, “We continue to look for ways to improve our team. As soon as we have something formal to announce, we will do so.”
Later Torii Hunter wrote. “I was told money was tight but I guess the Arte had money hidden under a Mattress. Business is business but don’t lie,”
Hamilton is a highly talented individual who now will be responsible to take the Angels to another level. Despite signing Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson, the Angels did not make any grounds with any consistent good results.
However, with arrival of Hamilton in the roster, the Angels’ chances to play more consistently will be increased. He last played for the Rangers and performed with consistent numbers. He finished the season on a high note and went with .285 hitting average along with 43 home runs and 128 RBIs and .354 OBP. Not only in the last season, but Hamilton’s overall career hitting average of .304 along with 161 home runs, 553 RBIs and .363 OBP also makes him a great player in the entire league.
