Los Angeles Angels sneak past Oakland Athletics 5-4 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Oakland Athletics 5-4 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 1 at O. co Coliseum in Oakland.
Though the Angels defeated the Athletics in this particular game but overall it was just a formality as the Athletics had already won the series winning back to back two games with huge margin.
However, in this particular game, they did not play well and allowed too many chances to Angels’ upfront batting lineup.
"A win's a win, It was probably more of a nail-biter than we would have liked. This team hangs around and they'll find a way to get back in it if you let them. You just have to keep your foot on the gas pedal and try to pound them into submission before they get their second wind," Mark Trumbo said.
“Trum is definitely finding his comfort level in the box," Angels' manager Mike Scioscia said. "It's good to see from some guys. Trum, Mike and Howie got in the act today and we needed every one of them."
Athletics pitchers received too many hits and eventually lost the game with bitter humiliation. Starter Tommy Milone started the game for the Athletics but with poor pitching selection, he could not stop the Angels’ consistent hammering and proved one of the losing factors for the Athletics.
He pitched seven innings but allowed four runs and seven hits along with seven earned runs and three homers. He struck out ten while his ERA rose to 3.69.
Though the Athletics relief pitcher Pat Neshek somehow played well and stopped the Angels’ heavy hitting with his one inning’s spell but still it was too late for them to make a comeback. Closer Ryan Cook pitched one inning and struck out two on 1.93 ERA.
On the other hand, the Angels pitchers played a vital role in their team’s win. He pitched 6.1 innings and allowed two runs. He struck out five while his ERA remained consistent at 4.04.
Michael Kohn also played well and showed his extraordinary pitching skills. He pitched in right areas and proved one of the winning factors for the Los Angeles’ win.
