Los Angeles Angels succumb to Detroit Tigers 2-5 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels were defeated by the Detroit Tigers 2-5 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 26 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
Prince Fielder and Delmon Young played well for the Tigers and ease past the Angels comprehensively.
Fielder smashed two hits and scored a run on his four at-bats. He played aggressive and never let the Angels’ pitchers dominate during the entire game.
He also ran for two RBIs while his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .520.
His team-mate and designated hitter Delmon Young also supported his team well and proved helpful.
He scored one run on two hits while he scored one RBI as well on his four at-bats. He too was quite aggressive on the plate and every time he faced the Angels’ pitchers, he hit them hard with his smashing swings.
Right fielder Andy Dirks also did well with his three at-bats. He played superbly and scored two runs on his two hits. He also ran for a RBI and maintained his slugging percentage at .510.
"I really found something out about our guys today, I think, I think they knew with the big guy out of there, [they needed to do something]. I think some guys really stepped up and responded. I think that was one of the big keys to the series, without question," Leyland said.
"We did a very good job with Trout, and we did a terrific job against Trumbo, keeping him in the park. That's 54 home runs you're talking about between the two of them," Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said on his team’s tremendous joint effort.
Along with batters, the Tigers' pitchers also played well and earned a great victory for their team.
Max Scherzer started the game for the Tigers.
"Going into today, we needed to win this game, We needed to win this series.” Scherzer said.
He pitched seven solid innings and allowed only one run and four hits. He retired nine Angels’ batters and maintained his ERA at 4.13.
