Los Angeles Angels thrash Oakland Athletics 3-1 – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Angels thrashed the Oakland Athletics 3-1 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 23 at O.co Coliseum, Oakland in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Angels’ with this win also won the series 2-1 and started a great beginning after consistent bad performances since the start of 2012 season.
Third base Alberto Callaspo played well for his team as his go-ahead two-run double in the bottom 11th and provided a superb win to the Angels.
"We continue to pitch well through the tough times of our start, It took a big hit in extra innings, but we got it done." manager Mike Scioscia said for his team’s great win and different aspects which played a huge role in his team’s win.
Ernesto Frieri pitched the finals 11th inning and went scoreless. "I was waiting for this for a long time with the Padres and they wouldn't give me a chance, The Angels trust me a little more. Mentally, I was ready." said Frieri.
Designated hitter Jonny Gomes hit a homer for the A’s, but rest of his teammates just could not get the right momentum to hit in the right areas.
"Offensively we have to get a lot better. We're putting a lot of weight on our starting pitchers, We're not getting run out of the stadium every day. It's not like it's 10-9. It's 2-1 or 1-0. We need to find ways to get guys on base." Oakland's Jonny Gomes said with confidence.
The Angels entered in the game with huge confidence and went early in the first innings as they made a run into third. While the A’s were in position to fight back in the bottom sixth as they levelled the score with 1-1 however, the Angels proved more diligent and rallied past in the 11th and won the game in style.
With this win, the Angels also improved their winning percentage and now stand at .444 after 20-25 win loss.
The Oakland Athletics on the other hand maintaining their .489 win percentage in 22-23 win loss.
