Los Angeles Angels trade Jordan Walden – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels traded their hard-throwing relief pitcher Jordan Walden to Atlanta Braves and received their starting pitcher Tommy Hanson. Experts believe that both played poorly in the last Major League Baseball season.
Both players showed little courage and ended their poor campaign with much disgrace. Hanson finished with 13-10 win-loss record along with 4.48 ERA, 161 strike-outs and 1.45 WHIP. Walden saved only one game and finished with 3.46 ERA along with 48 strike-outs and 1.36 WHIP.
“We wanted to make sure there was an opportunity for our young pitchers to break through in the spring, and the way we were set up there really wasn’t a spot, So we were focused on trying to use some of our excess starting pitching to find a power bullpen arm,” general manager Frank Wren said with confidence explaining some aspects of the trade.
“I’m not saying it doesn’t give us some more payroll flexibility, but that wasn’t the primary motivator. His arm is healthy, he’s just kind of developed into a liltle different style of pitcher the last few years, And with that new style it’s moved him back in our rotation,” general manager Frank Wren added.
Walden started his career in 2010 with the Los Angeles Angels and has played one All-Star Game. Though he still is an inexperienced campaigner in the biggest baseball league in the world, but still experts say that the level of expectations were connected with him during his first season with the Angels, he just could not perform on that scale.
Now with the Braves, Walden somehow will start a new beginning with them. Braves is a good side and like last season where they certainly outplayed many with their late run in the regular season, shows a good consistent progress on their side.
They started the season on high note and never looked shy while giving a heavy thumping to leading teams in American and National League. On the other hand, the Angels with former Braves’ Hanson will also hope a good beginning for a good Major League season next year.
