Los Angeles Angels unlikely to sign Zack Greinke – MLB News
Starting pitcher Zack Greinke might not come back into Los Angeles Angels' roster next season. Sources are reporting that Angels’ front office is not interested to sign free agent Greinke.
Earlier news came out in the media that Angels’ are favourites to include starting pitcher Greinke for another Major League Baseball season.
Greinke last played in the Angels’ franchise and with best outcome. He finished this past season with great numbers and earned appreciation from all over the league.
His 2012 MLB season with the Angels was the last season on contract and now he is a free agent, open to sign with any team in the entire league.
Some say, the Angels’ top executives have clear in their mind that they cannot afford Greinke anymore. Their payroll already is somewhat very broad and according to sources, the former Angels’ pitching prodigy will agree but with a long term hefty contract.
These sources also say that many other Major League teams might give him a huge and lengthy deal.
Texas Rangers are now emerging as big contenders to land Greinke in their roster. Their management has showed great interest to sign Greinke due to his extraordinary pitching skills.
Josh Hamilton’s free agency also gives the Rangers a slight vacant salary adjustment which they will probably use for Greinke’s expenses.
“I think because of the need of pitching, there’s going to be an awful lot of interest, When I look at him, I think he has a real feel for pitching. He’s a command guy. He has a really good changeup," Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan.
He added, “When I look at him, I don’t get concerns about breaking down because he has a good delivery and it’s effortless and he has a feel for pitching, You’d probably feel stronger about him as far as a longevity candidate than maybe some of the power guys. That’s my initial thoughts when I watch him."
Though these are still speculations that Greinke might sign with the Rangers but this is a fact that he is a big player and will be getting a handsome contract soon.
