Los Angeles Angels win five in a row, beat Seattle Mariners 9-1 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels extended their winning streak to seven games as they hammered the Seattle Mariners 9-1 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Friday, August 31 in the opening game of their three match series.
Angels have looked in terrific touch over the last couple of weeks. Credit should be given to them for the way they have managed to come out of troubles on many occasions this season. It was another display of top quality baseball skills as the Angels dominated
their opponents in almost all aspects of the game.
With momentum on their side, surely the Angels will be looking to put up another solid pitching performance in Game 2 to take a decisive 2-0 series lead.
Mariners, on the other hand, will be very unhappy with their win-loss record in this season. Their fans had high expectations of them but unfortunately, the quality of their game-play has not been that good this season. Mariners will be looking to regroup
and fight back in the next game to keep the series.
Angels’ starting pitcher Dan Haren showed great throwing abilities, giving up just five hits and a run in seven solid innings to grab his ninth win of the season. Relief pitchers Garrett Richards and LaTroy Hawkins combined to pitch two scoreless innings
to help the Angels complete a comprehensive victory.
"We got started early tonight again, then keep pushing the action as much as we can," Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said. "We matched up some good offensive baseball with a great effort from Dan."
"That's really the difference in the game," Haren said. "I just felt a lot of times this year, I was close to turning the corner and those balls would get by and the game would be different. Tonight, two great double plays in the early innings, then we added
on."
Kendrys Morales played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he homered to centre in the first inning and later added a double to left to extend the Angels’ lead to 5-1. Catcher Bobby Wilson hit his third home-run of the season to improve his
average to .221.
