Los Angeles Angles join race to sign Cliff Lee

Major League Baseball (MLB) is enjoying a lot of attention at the moment. The free market is steaming hot, and the winter meetings have been the source of great activity during the off season. Thirty teams from the National League and the American League
are looking at the possibility of signing good players from among the free agents. There have been a lot of top players on the horizon this year, and it looks like many general managers will be bidding over the top to secure the service of their most sought
after targets.
At the moment, Cliff Lee is the leading target among free agents, and many clubs have stated their desire to sign the star as soon as possible. From what is known, the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals are leading the race to sign
the talented pitcher. However recent reports in the press suggest that the Los Angeles Angels are now joining the hunt for the best pitcher in the market.
Angels General Manager Tony Reagins, has acknowledged that his focus has been on the likes of Carl Crawford, Adrian Beltre and Rafael Soriano. However, he’s declined meeting with Lee personally. The Angels may deny the contact, but their signing of Hisanori
Takahashi has raised a lot of eyebrows in the world of baseball.
When Reagins was asked if he’d prefer one great player, or two good players to fill in two vacant roles, he replied, "I think you can go either way. The splash (of signing a big star) is s**y. At the end of the day, you're trying to improve your club. I
think we did that earlier with Takahashi."
Though Lee wasn’t the focus of the question, it did lay the grounds for a more startling revelation. On signing Cliff Lee, the GM said, "When players move, others will follow. His signing will be significant, and things will happen after that, from a logical
standpoint. There's activity. This is probably not unlike last year. At some point, the bigger names will fall."
It doesn’t surprise many to figure out what the strategy at the Angels clubhouse may be. Though they’re not publicly pursuing top guns in the free agency, the Halos are very much active. Could Lee possibly end up at the Angels’ camp?
