Los Angeles Clippers agree to a deal with backup centre Ryan Hollins – NBA News
The Los Angeles Clippers announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with free agent centre Ryan Hollins.
After landing Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups before the 2011-2012 regular season commenced, the Clippers finished 5th in the Western Conference and went as far as the Western Conference Semi Finals in the
playoffs.
Happy with the recent success of the team, the Clippers are making big moves to keep their team relevant for years to come and make it a potential title contender.
Despite all their efforts, the Clippers had been criticized for not having enough depth in the front court, and were particularly shallow at centre position. However, they addressed that concern as well on Thursday when Hollins
agreed to a one year contract with the Clippers worth the veteran’s minimum of $1.065 million.
Hollins made $2.48 million last year playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and later with the Boston Celtics. Despite the pay cut, he is looking forward to the opportunity.
“Ryan is happy to be a Clipper. He's happy to be back in L.A. and he's looking forward to helping the Clippers,” said Hollins agent Todd Ramasar.
Hollins, who will turn 28 this October, will be entering his seventh season in the NBA next season. He has a career average of 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in his six year career.
Last season, he played for the Cavaliers and Celtics and averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds. Hollins is not expected to get a lot of playing time in Los Angeles, but will be a useful addition to the Clippers roster and can provide
coverage for the starting bigs. The Clippers have Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan as the starting power forward and centre, with Lamar Odom as the first reserve.
The Clips have strengthened their roster this offseason, adding key components that will help them achieve even greater success next season. They have so far picked up Jamal Crawford, Lamar Odom and Grant Hill in the offseason
and have also re-signed Chauncey Billups. In addition to that they have reached an agreement with Blake Griffin for a five year contract extension.
