Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro satisfied with Lamar Odom commitment – NBA Update
Los Angeles Clippers look serious about building an NBA World Championship worthy side and added yet another piece to their puzzle with the acquisition of Lamar Odom. Odom, a two times NBA World Champion and a former NBA Sixth Man of the Year, has come with
a lot of unanswered questions about his commitment but Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro believes there is still hunger in his eyes.
Odom had a torrid time with the Dallas Mavericks last season after moving there from the Los Angeles Lakers. Lamar had asked to be traded from Los Angeles Lakers after a breakdown in relationship with the management there and his troubles followed him to
Dallas. The player had season lows for points and rebounds with the Mavericks and in the end the franchise just gave up on him.
There were thus many eyebrows raised when the Clippers went in for Odom but Vinny Del Negro has assured fans that they made the decision after being thoroughly satisfied with Lamar’s commitment.
"There were obviously a lot of questions," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "But at the end of the conversation, I just felt he was committed and wanted to be back in a Clipper uniform.”
Lamar had started his career with the Clippers before moving around the league and spending some successful years with the Lakers. His recent troubles are a thing of the past for Del Negro, who believes that Odom brings many qualities to the table that will
prove invaluable for his team.
“That's what I wanted to see. All of the other things in the past are in the past. ... I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a guy that's had as much consistent success at his position than Lamar."
Lamar himself has pledged to put the fiasco of last season behind him and appeared confident in his ability to help the Clippers head in the right direction.
“You all know what type of person I am and what I can bring to a ballclub. The same thing I did when I was winning championships is what I'm going to be doing for the Clippers now."
With Chris Paul and Blake Griffin leading the charge at Los Angeles, it would certainly not hurt the Clippers to have someone of Lamar’s calibre and experience to help along the way.
