Los Angeles Clippers complete historic comeback for 99 – 98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies – NBA Recap - Part 1
The Los Angeles Clippers looked down and out in their first encounter against the Memphis Grizzlies, in a first round Western Conference tie, but they came back against all odds for a splendid win. Playing in front of a hostile crowd at the FedExForum, the
Clippers trailed by as much as 27 points at one occasion but found a way to will back into the game and win it at the end 99 – 98.
The amazing Clippers victory was the biggest comeback win in NBA playoffs history, and the Clippers were understandably emotional at the buzzer. Los Angeles guard Nick Young, who made some huge 3-point shots down the stretch, said the thrilling win was testament
to a team that never gave up, and showed that the Clippers had great strength of character.
"It's crazy. It shows how hard we fought, how we rallied together as a team and made stops at the end. All of it came from the bench tonight, and that's a part of the team. When things aren't going right, we felt we had to get our starters going."
Young had 19 points, the team high for Los Angeles. Blake Griffin had 17 and 7 rebounds while Caron Butler managed 12. Chris Paul was instrumental in the end as well and he finished with 14 points and 11 assists for a double-double.
"Unfortunately, that's how we play," he said. "We get killed in the first three quarters and in the fourth quarter we like to try to stand up for ourselves, and we found a way to win tonight."
Memphis started off better in a game that they would go on to dominate for the most part. The Grizzlies had a 10 – 4 run from jump ball and followed it up with a 7 – 0 burst that took them to 17 – 6. They kept on pounding the visitors until the end of the
first quarter, when they were up at 34 – 16.
The second quarter wasn’t too different. The Grizzlies remained on the offensive even as Los Angeles made efforts to rein them in. The away side trailed by double digits throughout and an 8 – 0 burst by Memphis at the end left them staring at a 58 – 39 deficit
at halftime.
