Los Angeles Clippers demolish Dallas Mavericks 112-90: NBA Recap
Los Angeles Clippers put up a strong defensive performance on the night and converted 22 turnovers into 26 points to down Dallas Mavericks 112-90 here at Staples Center on Wednesday night.
The Clippers came into this game boasting a league high 10.5 steals per game and improved their average further as they made 18 steals on the night.
"Turnovers triggered basically all the problems tonight." said the Dallas Coach Rick Carlisle.
Jamal Crawford led the Clippers with 20 points; Blake Griffin had a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards while Chris Paul also completed his double-double with 14 points and 13 assists.
Vince Carter paced the Mavericks with 16 points and 7 rebounds, Derek Fisher posted 15 points while Chris Kaman and Shawn Marion chipped in with 14 points each.
The Clippers got off to a good start and were 7-0 after two minutes of play. A Chris Kaman turnaround jumper reduced the deficit down to 8-11 before two back to back deuces by Blake Griffin put the Clips up 15-8. They kept pulling
ahead and a Caron Butler dunk shot pushed their lead to 19-10. Los Angeles were leading 29-18 by the end of the period.
Dallas went for a 9-0 spurt right at the start of the second period to reduce the deficit down to 27-29. A Ronny Turiaf layup put the Clips up 33-27 and a DeAndre Jordan dunk shot had them leading 37-29 with 6:20 to go in the quarter.
The Clippers opened up a 12 point lead on 43-31 with a Griffin dunk shot. Jamal Crawford got hot later in the period as he scored two back to back three pointers for the Clips, who pushed their lead to 60-42 by halftime.
Chris Paul made a running layup jumper early in the third period to put San Antonio up 64-42. Dallas looked focussed after returning from the locker room and reeled off a 9-0 run to reduce the deficit down to 54-66. But the Clips
maintained a reasonable distance and Caron Butler nailed one in from downtown late to put them up by 79-62. The Clippers were leading 83-68 by the end of the period.
Clippers kicked off the final period by scoring the first 6 points, going up 89-68. It was a no-contest after that.
