Los Angeles Clippers extend their winning streak to 10; Drop Detroit Pistons 88-76: NBA Recap
Los Angeles Clippers took their winning streak into double digits when they dropped the Detroit Pistons 88-76 here at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Monday night.
Los Angeles players usually share the work load in the scoring department and tonight was no different with Jamal Crawford and Blake Griffin each posting 15. Chris Paul had 14 points and 7 assists while Caron Butler added 11 points
in the winning cause.
"It's hard to do but we're steadily making progress at both ends of the court. With half the team being new, it took us awhile to trust each other and know each other's games. We're coming along as far as that goes and I really
think the sky's the limit for us as long as we continue to build good habits." Matt Barnes on the 10 game winning streak for the Clippers.
Brandon Knight led the Pistons with 16 points and 5 assists, Tayshaun Prince had 15 points and 7 rebounds while Greg Monroe had 11 points under his belt. They were missing Rodney Stuckey, who is averaging 11.7 points per game coming
off the bench, due to back spasms.
It was a close affair throughout, with no team piling a major lead in the first half. Good defence on both sides of the court kept the scoring low; a 7 nil spurt had the Pistons up 16-10 but the Clips tied the score immediately
on 18. Los Angeles were up 21-20 by the end of the first period.
A Will Bynum jumper early in the second period had Detroit up 25-21 but Lamar Odom dunk shot tied the score on 25. The trend continued for most of the passage with the score getting even on 30 and then again on 35. The Clippers
were up 42-40 by the end of the quarter.
The Clips were sharp coming after the break and a DeAndre Jordan layup had them up by 46-42. They went on rampage with a 12 zip spree capped off by a Willie Green shot from behind the arc to push their advantage to 58-46. Prince
made a hook shot to make it 53-59 for the Pistons, who had started slashing the deficit. Detroit closed the period with a 7-0 run to close the gap down to 60-63.
Bynum made a jumper at the start of the final period to make it a one point game, but the Clippers never surrendered their lead. A 6 nil spurt put them up 69-62, and another 6-0 burst pushed their lead to 75-64 around the mid quarter
mark. Griffin scored a deuce to put the Clips up by 10 with 3:10 in the regulation and they hung on to win 88-76.
