Los Angeles Clippers hoping to bring in Lamar Odom from Dallas Mavericks – NBA Update
According to recent reports from an unknown source, Los Angeles Clippers are looking to bring in Lamar Odom back to Hollywood from the Dallas Mavericks. However their hopes are rested on a third team getting involved to acquire the contract of point guard
Mo Williams.
Dallas Mavericks after getting a lacklustre season from Odom are hopeful of clearing up cap space by letting him go with still $2.4 million remaining on his contract and have asked his agent, Jeff Schwartz, to consider other offers for the two times NBA
Champion.
However there is a trade deadline on Odom`s contract till Friday with the possibility of further suspending the transfer date. Nevertheless even if a deal is not struck by then, Mavericks are going to buy out his contract and have made it clear that they
want to re-sign Jason Kidd.
Along with re-signing Kidd, Dallas are hopefully going to have enough space to bring in either of the two best point guards available in this year`s free agency. They have been linked with bringing in Deron Williams from the Brooklyn Nets. Another player
they have considered re-signing is two times MVP, Steve Nash. Nash left the Mavericks to join Phoenix Suns back in 2004 and will become a priority provided that they are unable to lure in Williams from the Nets.
On the other hand, Odom will be eager to return to playing, following his dispute with Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban. Odom and Dallas by mutual consent decided to leave the team well before the playoffs. Ever since his dismayed exit from Dallas, Odom has
been working out privately and he is hopeful to be selected on the US team taking part in the London Olympics after attending training camp in July.
The good thing for Odom in the trade would be that he would be returning to the team which drafted him in the first place while the Clippers would hope that he is able to return back to his form quickly which saw him become a key part of the Los Angeles
Lakers.
At the same time, Clippers want to send away Mo Williams after deciding that to keep together the trio of Chris Paul, Eric Bledsoe and Chauncey Billups at the point guard position. It would be a bit disappointing for him as he hinted towards using his player
option to return back to the team for next season.
"Mo's a professional and I think he showed that last season," Mark Bartelstein (Mo`s agent) said. "He had a great year under difficult circumstances. That said, he's a starting point guard. He's an All-Star starting point guard. So we'll look at everything
and see what makes sense."
