Clippers fulfill their desire of going in house for the post that was left vacant by the departure of Neil Olshey to the Portland Trail Blazers
The Los Angeles Clippers announced Tuesday their new President of Basketball Operations, and decided to stay in house for the position by nominating Gary Sacks as the man for the role.
Sacks was the director of player personnel for the Clippers, and will now take over the basketball operations after Neil Olshey, the former president of basketball operations, left the Clippers in the summer to take the same position
with the Portland Trail Blazers.
“Gary has been a valuable and loyal member of our organization for the past 18 years. His recent role this very productive summer, as well as his many contributions during the course of his tenure made it clear that he is the right
person to lead our basketball operations department,” said Clippers President Andy Roeser.
Sacks has been with the Clippers for the past 18 seasons, and was the director of scouting/ assistant director of player personnel for five years before taking up the director of playing personnel position for the past two seasons.
"I'm excited to take on this new role with the organization. We have a very strong roster with great depth of talent. I look forward to helping to build on the success we had last season. I am very excited to see how far we can
go this year, plus we are well positioned for the future,” said Sacks in a statement released by the club.
The Clippers were expected to nominate a new president from within the organization, and Sacks had the confidence of many of the Clippers players.
Just last week, Clippers All Star forward Blake Griffin gave credit to Sacks for achieving a very successful offseason for the team, one in which they re-signed veteran All Star point guard Chauncey Billups and then added depth
to their roster by acquiring Lamar Odom, Jamal Crawford and veteran guard Grant Hill. Griffin also said that the whole Clippers roster feels that Sacks has put in the time and effort and shown his loyalty to the franchise, and went as far as saying that he
would be disappointed if Sacks was not made the new President of Basketball operations.
