Los Angeles Clippers romp past Washington Wizards for 107 – 81 win – NBA Recap
The Los Angeles Clippers put in another dazzling display on Saturday night as they humbled the Washington Wizards for a 107 – 81 win. The game at the Verizon Center never looked like going the home side’s way as the high flying Clippers dominated and didn’t
give the Wizards any chance to work their magic.
Clippers sensational power forward Blake Griffin and his partner in crime, centre DeAndre Jordan, put on another stunning display with some sumptuous dunks and lobs, something that has become a trademark of the Los Angeles outfit this season.
Griffin and Jordan both finished with double-doubles; Blake garnering 21 points and 11 rebounds while Jordan had 18 points and hauled down 11 boards. Helping them along the way were the likes of Caron Butler, 14 points and 7 rebounds, and Maurice Williams,
17 points and 8 assists.
Super star point guard Chris Paul, who arrival at the Los Angeles franchise has resulted in a drastic change of fortunes for the side, didn’t have to do much and played only around 28 minutes. He was pleased with the effort of his teammates on the night.
"From the tip to the end of the game, we controlled the game," Paul said. "When we get stops, we're tough to guard in transition. We've got the shooters, we've got the high fliers and all that. When we defend teams, we're tough to beat."
The Wizards really didn’t get any joy on a night where they couldn’t score and couldn’t stop. Jordan Crawford had 12 points for Washington, Nick Young had 14 and so did their best player; John Wall.
Wall, who also had 7 assists to his name, didn’t hold back in his criticism of the team’s display after the game.
"It was pitiful," Wall said. "They could do whatever they wanted - whenever they wanted - all night."
His view was shared by at least one more player in the Washington locker room.
"We all should have been embarrassed. We were on our home court - and they came out and did what they wanted," said Wizards forward Rashard Lewis. "As a unit, none of us came to play tonight."
After the early exchanges were even, with the score 6 – 6 with over 9 minutes still to play in the first quarter, the Clippers started to take over. They were 23 – 12 with 3:03 left on the clock, courtesy of a 17 – 6 sprint and ended the segment in control
at 28 – 17.
The second period was even more brutal, Los Angeles punishing the Wizards for 30 points. Washington could only reply with 17 of their own and were pretty much out of the game at half time; the score 58 – 34 to the Clippers.
The Wizards suffering didn’t end after the interval either as Los Angeles made sure they made a mark in the third period, outscoring Washington 29 – 10. With a quarter still left to play in the game, the result was a foregone conclusion with the score 87
– 53.
The Wizards got some consolation points in the fourth before the clock ran out to end their misery at 107 – 81.
