Los Angeles Clippers seal their second straight win in two nights as they beat the Sacramento Kings 100-82
The Los Angeles Clippers succeeded in accomplishing a long-awaited feat on Thursday night. Their dreams came true when they won two games in a row. They had been looking forward to this victory since February and finally got what
they wanted. They clinched a victory against the Sacramento Kings 100-82 at the Staples Center.
Arena Stats
The game lasted for a duration of 2 hours 31 minutes and there was an attendance of 11,504 people who enjoyed watching the Clippers beat past the Kings. The lead changed four times and the game was tied two times.
Quotable
“Earlier in the season we were taking too many 3s, now we've started taking it to the hole,” said Clippers guard Eric Gordon.
Gordon has been successful in complementing 10 out of the 11 games with more than 20 points. He had an average of 16.9 points last season. He had a tie with LeBron James as he averaged 23.6 and was seventh in the league like James.
The Los Angeles Clippers’ rookie guard forward Blake Griffin could not be controlled by any of the Sacramento Kings. The Kings had the same problem with the handling of DeAndre Jordan as well.
Samuel Dalembert had two fouls and was whistled after his second foul with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter. Rookie DeMarcus Cousins replaced Dalembert after that and the Clippers went on an 11-0 run for a lead of 19-15 lead
that they never gave up again. Dalembert scored two points in 10 minutes. Cousins scored seven points in 27 minutes and the Los Angeles Clippers breezed past the Kings by as many as 26 points while he was on the floor.
Quotable II
“Tonight was a big step backwards for us,” said a very disappointed Kings coach Paul Westphal.
Strong Links
The game was nationally televised and the Clippers were lucky to be participating in that game. Griffin was one player who the cameras could not leave focus of. He scored a total of 25 points as he ran around impressing the whole
country, reminding them about what they have been missing. He grabbed 15 rebounds, five assists and a few more highlight reel dunks. He had entered NBA topping with 30 slam dunks. Luther Head was hot as he scored his season-high 15 points for the Kings.
Weak links
Tyreke Evans was very disappointing in this game. Who would believe that he was last season’s NBA Rookie of the Year after he scored eight points? His shooting went cold as he scored eight on 3 for 11 shooting. His shooting came
out in just 37.8 percent in his previous seven games (43 for 111). He even missed the first eight of his field goal attempts.
In the opening minute of the second quarter, the Sacramento Kings had cut the deficit to one. Griffin followed Dalembert in a dribble drive that drew Dalembert’s fourth foul and sent him to the bench for the rest of the quarter.
The Clippers outscored the Kings in the next 11 minutes by 30-16.
Bad Move
Griffin was left twice on picks and rolls by the Kings. Later they had to pay him back for this as he took powerful dunks that received a huge response from the Clippers and the crowd.
Under the Spotlight
The only King who played well was Carl Landry. He was the only sign of hope for the Kings as he finished with 18 points on 7 for 11 shooting. He surpassed his season average of 14.1 as he scored 15 in the first half.
Coming Up: For the Clippers, Friday @ Phoenix, Sunday vs. Utah, Wednesday vs. San Antonio. For the Kings, Saturday vs. Chicago, Tuesday vs. Indiana, Friday @ Lakers.
