Los Angeles Clippers sign Ronny Turiaf for veteran’s minimum – NBA Report
The Los Angeles Clippers have signed former Miami Heat reserve centre Ronny Turiaf to a one year contract, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
The deal is believed to be for the veteran’s minimum of $1.146 million. Turiaf sparingly played for the Miami Heat last season, and won an NBA championship with the team. He will now join a front court that is already buzzing with
talent in the Clippers squad.
“The Clippers and free-agent Ronny Turiaf have agreed to a one-year, veteran’s minimum contract worth $1.146 million, said NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter,” reported the Los Angeles Times.
The Clippers have DeAndre Jordan to play at the centre and Ryan Hollins to act as his backup. Similarly, the Clippers are also loaded at the power forward position, with Blake Griffin doing the regular starting duties and Lamar
Odom coming off the bench to cover him. Odom is a former 6th man of the year winner and has won championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was signed earlier this month by the Clippers.
Turiaf will join the four players as a backup reserve big man who can play both the four and five position.
The big is currently in London, training with the French National Team as they prepare for the London Olympics which are set to begin on July 28th. The French side will open their basketball campaign against the U.S.A
on Sunday, 29th July.
Turiaf was traded to the Heat by the Washington Wizards last season. He played 13 regular season games for Miami out of which he started in 5 and averaged 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17 minutes of playing time per game.
At 6 foot 10 inches, Turiaf is a strong and powerful player on the front court and can make things happen in the low post.
The Clippers have been quite aggressive in the off-season after a successful 2011-2012 campaign which saw them reaching the Western Conference Semi Finals. Feeling that now is the time for them to make become serious contenders
in the West, the Clips have shopped around in the off-season to make themselves better and stronger, while filling the holes in the team.
