Los Angeles Clippers sign veteran Bobby Simons - NBA Update
31 years old Bobby Simmons has been out of NBA action for almost a year now, after he was waived off by the San Antonio Spurs in November 2010, but in a few days time, he will be seen in action once again.
Just recently, Los Angeles Clippers signed the veteran to a short 10 day contract, in a hope that he would fill the space, left by Chauncey Billups.
“Bobby has played in the league and he can make some shots and he can spread the defence for us," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "I think he's a good team defender. I liked his workout. He was talking a lot on defence and we need our second unit to
make some shots and give our first unit some rest. We'll see how he does. He's a good guy and a hard worker."
This is not the first time Bobby would be seen in a Clippers jersey.
He has already represented the team earlier from 2003-05 and those two years were probably the most productive of his nine years career. For his outstanding performance in the 04-05 season; he was also awarded the “Most improved player of the year” accolade.
Unfortunately, he failed to repeat the performance in the coming years and for that he was eventually sidelined from NBA. However, he has not been completely out of action since then.
On March 11, 2011, he signed with the D-league’s Reno Bighorns and has been performing pretty well. Probably that is the reason Clippers acquired him.
Bobby is extremely thrilled with his comeback at the big stage and is motivated to do better.
“After I left here I went into free agency and didn't really understand what it was and what it was all about. The game doesn't change. I still love it, I still want to play and I can't wait to get back at it."
Although it is only a ten day contract but Bobby has a massive chance of making an impression during this stint. Just few good performances might turn things around for him. We already have one such case of New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, who, within
a period of two weeks, became a superstar from an unknown entity.
If Lin can do it, Bobby can do it as well. He is only 31 and still has a lot of basketball left in him, and the best thing is that he is more motivated than ever. Hopefully things will turn out well for him.
