Los Angeles Clippers tame DeMarcus Cousins, Win against Sacramento Kings – NBA Recap
The Los Angeles Clippers took on their state rivals Sacramento Kings here at the Power Balance Pavilion and managed to win 93-85. It was a closely contested game with the Kings giving the Clippers all they had. But in the end,
the Clippers were able to steal the win.
Randy Foye scored a game high 20 points, including 100% from the free throw line. DeMarcus Cousins could only manage 8 points and 6 rebounds for the Kings.
The Clippers led throughout the first half, with the Kings trying to catch up to them. They led by 14 points in the 2nd quarter but the Kings closed the first half with a 12-4 run to trail the Clippers 48-42.
The Clippers again extended their lead in the 3rd period but the Kings kept coming back at them. However, they were unable to take the lead and the Clippers went into the final quarter leading by 67-62.
A layup by Isaiah Thomas with 07:48 remaining in the game gave the Kings the first lead since early in the 1st quarter. The Clippers took the lead by 4 again, 78-74, but a two pointer by Jason Thompson followed by a
3 from Jimmer Fredette gave the Kings a one point lead with 04:35 left. Thomas sunk another jump shot to extend the Kings lead to three points but Blake Griffin scored 6 points in a row to put the Clippers on top 84-81.
The Clippers held on to their lead to win 93-85.
Randy Foye had 20 points for the Clippers while Blake Griffin added 14 with 9 rebounds. He was defended well by Thompson up until the 4th quarter, when Thompson was substituted. Blake then went on to score 6 straight
points. Chris Paul was reduced to 4 of 16 from the field by Isaiah Thomas, managing only 13 points. CP3 did manage 8 assists however.
The Clippers, on the other hand, came with a game plan for DeMarcus Cousins. They defended him well and had him in foul trouble early. After scoring 41 points in the last game against the Timberwolves, he only played 18 minutes
and scored 8 points. Eric Bledsoe came off the Clippers bench to score 13 points from 4 of 6 shooting in only 17:18 minutes of playing time. Isaiah Thomas had 17 points and Jason Thompson had 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Both teams shot poorly from beyond the arc, with the Clippers shooting 26.3% and Kings shooting 23.5%. Both teams had 18 turnovers.
The Clippers have now won 7 of their last 10 games and are placed 4th in the Western conference, 3 wins clear of Memphis.
