Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder Andre Ethier goes onto DL – MLB Update
The Los Angeles Dodgers' outfielder Andre Ethier has been put onto the disabled list for his strained left oblique.
The 30-year-old felt extreme pain on Tuesday which later proved to be more serious as the team management placed him on 15-day DL.
Ethier is not well since June 27 and until Tuesday, he carried pain like symptoms which came out to be more of a severe twinge.
Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly commented on Ethier's injury and said, "We just thought it was the wise decision at this point, The best-case scenario was getting to be Friday and we have a day game on Saturday and Sunday, which you wouldn't ask him to do after coming off this, so it didn't seem to make any sense."
Mattingly added telling the media some more details about Ethier, “It was definitely minor, but it's still there, He said as long as I don't miss, but you miss sometimes.”
Ethier’s time of return however, is still not confirmed by the team management. The 15-day DL is just a precautionary measure but on the other hand, some inside sources have speculated in the media that the Dodgers’ star will be returning after the All-Star break.
The Dodgers are taking a defensive approach and have activated second baseman Mark Ellis to play in Ethier’s place.
Mark Ellis, who was also injured with a severe leg injury, is now making his come back into the big league. After getting injured, Ellis went for rehabilitation and played in a Minor League assignment with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
Earlier, when Ethier’s injury hit the news, many experts started to speculate about the current credentials of Dodgers making into the post-season with several players injured.
Those experts agree on a single fact that these series of injuries will hurt their potential chances of getting into the Major League playoffs.
Dodgers’ outfielder Matt Kemp is already completing his rehabilitation assignment with Minor League Rancho Cucamonga after getting hamstring tightness. It will be interesting to see how the Dodgers can manage all the injuries to their players and improve their performance during this crucial stage of the regular season.
