Los Angeles Dodgers’ Matt Kemp hopeful for next season, hints at Prince Fielder’s inclusion
The Los Angeles Dodgers did not start the season impressively but countered all obstacles to finish it on a high, prevailing in 9 of the last 13 games of the season. With controversies subsiding steadily, the Dodgers believe they are in with a chance to
make it to the playoffs next season and their strengthened roster suggests something similar as well.
Matt Kemp has been central to Dodgers’ success this season, nearly becoming the fifth player in the history of Major League Baseball to steal 40 bases and hit as many home-runs in the same season. Although he succeeded in stealing 40 bases, he finished just
one short of 40 home-runs to keep himself waiting for at least another season.
Kemp remained optimistic about his chances of joining the 40-40 club and expressed his desire to work even harder for the next season.
Having played a major role in rekindling hope in the team’s dugout, Kemp is highly confident of making it through to the post-season next year and has urged the management to spend extensively in order to motivate the team. General Manager Ned Colletti made
a statement in this regard and ensured that the team will be on a spending spree this winter.
"The front office, they want to win as much as we do," Kemp said. "I'm sure next year, they'll do whatever they can to make our ballclub better and figure out ways to make it to the playoffs. If we don't make the playoffs next year it will be three years,
and I'm sure they don't want that."
Kemp was highly impressed by his team’s performance in August and September, commenting that if the team starts strongly next season, odds of ending the season on a positive note will be high.
The All-Star slugger made his first appearance in the mid-season classic this year and hopes to become a regular feature in the star-laden event. When asked about his thoughts on Prince Fielder’s possible addition to the roster, Kemp said, "I would love
to have him over here. Adding that would help us. You always can add more pitchers and more hitters. You can never have enough."
Kemp is all-set to become Dodgers’ MVP this year, but manager Don Mattingly has rightly advised Kemp that true greatness will be achieved over time.
