Los Angeles Dodgers’ Vicente Padilla expected to return after surgery – MLB News
Dodgers’ right-handed pitcher Vicente Padilla is likely to return soon after having a surgery on his right arm in Los Angeles.
Physicians performed a successful surgery to free a radial nerve captured by a muscle and conveyed their results to the Dodgers through club’s trainer Stan Conte at Camelback Ranch.
Though Mattingly, was expecting the pitcher to come back in the field within three to four weeks yet he was not confirmed the exact date of return. The same was the case with the club’s General Manager Ned Colleti when he was approached to have his comments
on current situation and expected comeback date of the veteran pitcher.
"Stan said it went well," Don Mattingly, the Dodgers’ manager informed. "[Padilla] is supposed to be back in Arizona sometime [on Friday], and he'll start the rehab process. What I got was that his best outlook is three or four weeks, then he'll start tossing."
Padilla was advised earlier this week by general manager to undergo surgery to avoid any possible problems during up-coming season. Colleti was expecting Padilla to recover before the All-Star Break but it was a unique type of surgery so there were no previous
cases present for reference to estimate the possible period of rehabilitation.
The Dodgers were looking to have Padilla as starter, however now with his recent surgery the pitcher will require some time for rehabilitation. The team will be looking to Padilla to pitch as a reliever to get some valuable practice time in.
According to Colleti, the problem was started when he tried to increase his velocity in training session. “So rather than go through this all season long and wander back and forth, back and forth, this was the best course of action.” Colleti said.
It is crucial for the Dodgers that Padilla gets his rehabilitation time in and can recover fully from his surgery. As the spring session is underway and the regular season is right around the corner. The Dodgers will be looking to Padilla to provide some
pitching depth to their line-up and act as a reliever until he regains his health back.
It will be interesting to see what impact the loss of Padilla will have on the Dodgers as the spring session is an important time for both players and teams to get their line-ups finalised. The team will be a little to have Padilla injured as the Dodgers
would have liked to be at full strength as they take on some of the top tier teams during spring training. The Dodgers are a very talented team and they understand the importance of having a decent spring workout session to prepare for a grueling regular season.
