Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Skip Schumaker from St. Louis Cardinals – MLB Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers have completed another decent deal that will bring second baseman Skip Schumaker into the South Los Angeles baseball franchise. The Dodgers recently added Korean lefty star pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu and experienced starting pitcher Zack Greinke while now with the inclusion of St. Louis Cardinals talented second baseman, their team’s overall offence will be more influential in the next coming Major League Baseball season.
Schumaker is coming from the Cardinals where he has been playing since 2005. Through this deal, the Dodgers sent minor league shortstop Jake Lemmerman to the Cardinals. Lemmerman has been part of the Dodgers’ roster since 2010 as he was drafted in that year. Last season, Lemmerman played with total persistent and showed great improvement with batting average of .233 in Double-A Chattanooga.
“On behalf of the entire Cardinals’ organization, I want to thank Skip for his professionalism and many contributions to our ballclub during his 12-year association, Skip helped provide many great memories for Cardinals fans and we wish he and his family all the best with the Dodgers,” stated Cardinals Senior Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak.
"We're trying to optimize the type of return we might get for him," Mozeliak told the newspaper.
Sources say that hitting-coach Mark McGwire persuaded the Dodgers’ front office hard and made them believe that Schumaker will be a great addition as he already seen him playing in the Cardinals’ during his time in St. Louis.
Schumaker last played for the Cardinals in which he batted at an average of .276 along with one homer, 28 RBIs and .339 OBP. His career hitting average of .288 along with 23 home runs, 211 RBIs and .345 OBP also makes him a good role player in the league.
Experts believe that this recent inclusion of a good second baseman in the Dodgers roster will be providing a great offensive power. The Dodgers, who are already getting prepared for the next Major League Baseball season, recognize that 2013 season will be tough to compete while this recent development will be giving them confidence to face all the leading teams with great self-assurance.
