Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels set off to a challenging season – MLB Special
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels have played their offseason cards with quite intelligence. Both franchises signed some of the best players in the entire Major League Baseball season and now heading into a fresh season with full confidence.
Some say that both teams as rivals will play for the ultimate prize in the big league of winning the World Series in 2013. Los Angeles Angels and Dodgers owners are also feeling thrilled to compete with each-other.
The Los Angeles Dodgers recently signed a talented starter Zack Greinke with a hefty deal. Greinke played the last Major League competition with Angels. Though he was linked with Angels earlier about a potential re-signing but at the last moment Greinke
signed with the Dodgers.
Bringing Greinke into the franchise, the Dodgers co-owner Magic Johnson did a tremendous job and gave him a multiyear deal. On the other hand, the Angels recently signed Seattle Mariners starter Jason Vargas and filled the gap which was created by Zack Greinke’s
new beginning with the Dodgers.
"Jason's a four-pitch guy, The changeup's the weapon. That's his out pitch. That's been his calling card since he's been in the big leagues,” Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said of Jason Vargas.
He added, "He throws strikes, pitches to contact, has that changeup that can get them out of jams. Our ballpark suits him well and our outfield defense should allow him to maximize his ability."
Vargas also said, "Me and Jered are still real good friends, He was one of the first people I talked to when I found out I was no longer a Seattle Mariner. It's exciting to wear the same uniform as my college teammate."
Not only Vargas, but last year, the Angels have also signed some big players. They signed St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols with the ten year deal. Along with Pujols, the Angels also brought C.J. Wilson and strengthened their offence.
Meanwhile, experts say that these recent developments in the Dodgers and Angels franchises are certainly beneficial and in the coming days, it will help them achieve consistent results.
